CYBER CRIME AND BANKING SECURITY WARNING

Please be vigilant.

Cyber crime and fraud present a significant risk in property and conveyancing transactions. Criminals may attempt to intercept communications, impersonate solicitors, or divert funds. We are committed to handling your matter as securely as possible, but vigilance on both sides is essential.

Our bank details will not change
Our firm’s bank account details will not change during the course of your matter.
– Ola Leslie Solicitors LLP will never notify you of a change to our bank details by email.

If you receive any communication suggesting that our bank details have changed, do not act on it.

Email security

Email is not a secure method of communication and can be intercepted, altered, delayed, or sent by someone impersonating another party. Fraudsters often use urgency or subtle changes in email addresses to deceive recipients.

You should treat any unexpected or urgent request for payment with caution.

How to reduce the risk of fraud

  • Only transfer money to the same account details you have previously verified with us.
  • Verify our bank details by telephone, using a known and trusted office number, before transferring any funds.
  • As an additional precaution, you may wish to consider making a small test payment (for example £1) before transferring larger sums.

If you receive a suspicious communication
If you receive an email, text message, or other communication that appears to be from us but provides different bank details or requests payment to a different account:

  • Do not transfer any funds.
  • Telephone us immediately using our known office number and speak to the case handler dealing with your file or the Managing Partner, Ms Ola Kupoluyi.

If you suspect fraud
If you believe you may have received a fraudulent communication or have transferred funds incorrectly:

  1. Contact us immediately by telephone.
  2. Contact your bank without delay.
  3. Report the matter to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Prompt action can significantly improve the chances of recovering funds.

Your responsibility

It is your responsibility to verify bank details with us by telephone before transferring any money. We cannot accept responsibility for losses arising where funds are transferred without appropriate verification or in reliance on fraudulent communications not sent by us.
